OCSB CHILDREN'S CHOIR

Director: Carla MacGregor  

Carla MacGregor studied voice and music at the University of Ottawa and is a graduate of the Artist in Community program at the Faculty of Education, Queen’s University. After receiving her teaching degree in music she moved to Cali, Colombia, S.A., where she taught music at the international school, Colegio Bolivar. While there, she sang with the opera chorus, Coro Pollifanico del Valle at the Teatro Municipale. In 1990, Carla became a music educator with the Ottawa Catholic School Board, where she led choirs, guitar ensembles and award winning jazz, concert and marching bands. She is a recipient of the OCSB’s Director of Education Commendation Award. Carla was also an instructor at the Ontario Education Leadership Centre, (Music), in Lake Couchiching, Ontario, for several years.Carla has performed, recorded and toured with many choirs, including the Ontario Youth Choir, the Ottawa Choral Society, the Ottawa Jazz Chorale and the Cantata Singers of Ottawa. She has performed with the Cantata Singers and the National Arts Centre Orchestra and recorded for CBC Radio with conductors Trevor Pinnock, Franz Paul Decker and Agnes Grossman. 

Carla is currently teaching music at St. Mark High School and is a passionate music educator

OCSB Choirs Founder: MaryAnn Dunn

MaryAnn Dunn founded the Children’s Choir for the Carleton Catholic School Board in 1991 and directed the Choir for 25 years. She had previously conducted Children’s Choirs since 1978, directing parish and school choirs,  For 10 years, MaryAnn organized and directed the Board Annual Choral Celebration, a project which she initiated to include hundreds of children each year from Board Schools. She is grateful for the many wonderful parent volunteers with whom she has worked over the years, the support of hundreds of choir families and the joy of meeting and sharing music with so many talented, dedicated, creative and amazing children.

Children's Choir History

The Ottawa Catholic School Board Children’s Choir was founded by MaryAnn Dunn in 1991 .  The Choir is made up of 80 students in grades 4-8, who are chosen by audition. The Choir performs 10-15 engagements around our city each year, including annual concerts both at Christmas and in the spring.  The children have sung with The Tenors at their annual Christmas Show at the NAC, WE Day at the Canadian Tire Centre and at Gord Downie's Memorial Tribute,  St. Joe's Supper Table Fundraiser, the Kiwanis Music Festival, and at many other functions around the city. The Children's Choir rehearses weekly on Monday evenings, and one Saturday per month. The choir sings in 2, 3 and 4 part harmony and they sing a wide variety of music, from sacred to secular to contemporary to world music.
